Future Quotation

Prediction is very difficult, especially if it's about the future.
 
I try to not think of the future, as it can too quickly swing from happy dreams and desires to scary nightmares of 'what ifs'.
I have many plans and dreams for the future that will keep me happy in life, but I try to not let them dwell within my thoughts for long as the world of harsh statistics and logic follow them rapidly like a fox chasing a rabbit.

I used to dream of becoming a vet and helping animals, before it was being an author to fiction/fantasy stories. Now, I dream of working with young children, preferably as a teacher, but then logic of universities come into play.
Some are close by, I don't have to leave home for school, which is what I want, but then I remember that close-by or not a university is hard to get into.
Teachers and parents say that kids like me have a great shot at getting into any university, college, or workplace we want which relieves me, until I look at my "They're Okay" grades. Why would I get accepted?
With roadblocks and many more, along with many longer or shorter roads, all I can remember from my deep thinking is that no matter what goal I shoot for, I will have a big obstacle in my way that I might not overcome.

So, to not become depressed about the unpredictable future, I prefer to not think of it. I set a goal, and accept whatever is thrown my way. I'll eventually walk down the path that will keep me happy.

The Holiday of Halloween

     The (arguably) most popular holiday in North America can be seen as many things: a time of terror and devil worshipers, a time of childish fun and free candy, a time of great commercial sell outs, or a time when evil spirits and lonely ghosts walk among the living. It all depends on perspective and opinion since no one is actually right or wrong.
     For me, Halloween is a fun holiday with scares and costumes and overall family fun. Spending time with loved ones on a night of supposed terror, and having fun in a variety of way. There's a ritual for my family though.
     The original point of Halloween was for humans to disguise themselves as ghosts and monsters to hide from them, so to me it makes sense that the costumes we wear in the present must also be spooky and scary or related to something scary. My family starts of Halloween by dressing up in such costumes.
     Then, to show how much you love the holiday and spending time with our friends, walk around with them at night to show off your costumes, and of course get rewarded with treats like candy, pop, chips and raisin boxes! (An O-Henry bar is the treat on Halloween since its hard to find someone who hands them out)
     After taking the treats home and inspecting it for bad things some bad people could have put in the candy or raisins, I celebrate getting so much free treats by watching scary movies with my family and/or friends. Usually its just me and my mom.
     That's Halloween for me every year (until 3 years ago when it turned into scaring kids who come to the door instead of going out to get candy), and I love it! A night of fun and scares, two things I love, as well as no longer having to worry about looking good to the public - because this night I'm wearing a disguise! That is the spirit of Halloween.
     While I can see why some people fear the holiday or disprove of it - since it rivals Christmas with selling items that you'll use for one night then probably never use again all for commercialism - I can't see how anyone could actually hate Halloween.
     Its all about fun, just like so many other popular holidays. There's no way a person can avoid fun on Halloween night: walking around in a costume with children, dressing up in a costume to get free candy, dressing up and going to a party, dressing up in a scary outfit and scaring people, staying at home watching scary movies, there's so many things to do on Halloween that its impossible to be bored.
     If someone hates Halloween, then they're also saying that they hate fun!

Poetry Unit Ending

Poetry is a unique style of writing used to express feelings, like a song without music or actual singing. That's what I always viewed poetry as.
After writing three poems (with great difficulty), my feelings stay the same. My view of poetry hasn't changed. It's still unique and with many rules to make a poem good or bad that can be changed for the poem itself or its style.
It's still lovely to listen to, but hard to write. Overall, its still not my cup of tea.
I have nothing against poetry, I'd just rather read a novel than read or write another poem.

School Assignments Reflection

In all my time in school, roughly 15 years now, I've learnt that being the manager of my education can be hard or easy, especially when applied to an assignment. It all depends on two things: the way a teacher pushes his/her students, and the grit I (or any other student) have for the assignment.
Grit is what drives all people into learning what they want to learn, or need to learn for a reason that is important to the person. Having grit is important, and what is more important is using grit for the right reasons. If I take what little grit I have and apply it to an assignment, then it will make the overall difference in my school work.
Sadly, I'm still working on doing this.
However, grit isn't all that a student like me needs to accomplish an assignment. Another factor for completion of such a task is also how much energy and passion a teacher puts in pushing his/her students in doing an assignment. Ever find it easier to listen to a lesson on a subject when the teacher talks with passion in their speech? This is also the case for school assignment, because its also a lesson, one that a teacher has made for the student to learn about something themselves.
If a teacher puts energy/passion into his/her students completing an assignment, then the students will pick up on this energy themselves and use it to work harder on their own work.
So, with the right attitude from a teacher and enough forced grit, school assignments become not as much boring homework, but a fun learning challenge.

Toni Morrison


A Nobel Prize winning American novelist, editor and professor.
Was born on February 18, 1931, in Lorain, Ohio.
Her novels are known for their epic themes, vivid dialogue and richly detailed black characters. Among her best known novels are The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon and Beloved. Morrison has won nearly every book prize possible. She has also been awarded honorary degrees.

I have many ideas for writing, and there are many things I wish to read about, especially what I want to happen to characters I like in novels/manga I read.
When something I want to happen doesn't happen, I think of what I expecting to happen in the book and I think about some of my own story ideas, and then I write my own story. This is generally known as fan-fiction.
However, I don't just use my ideas for these fan-fiction stories, I also make my own stories and turn it into a book. Though, I can never give them a good opening or ending, but that's what practice is for.

Gratitude


Dear, Dameon

My dearest big brother (and my only brother) and one of my greatest friends, I know how many times I've argued with you in the past, and probably will in the future. However, besides the sibling dysfunction we have occasionally; I want to tell you how much I appreciate having you in my life, and having you as my brother.
You're undoubtablely the best brother there is or ever was. You're always there when I need advice or help with ... anything, just as you continually promise me. And you always know what to do to make me happy when I'm mad, sad, or just bored.
You're also the smartest person I know (besides Daddy, and maybe our big sister Cassy), always having the cool or amazing information that you generously spread to everyone. When I listen to you talking about something you like or something important that a person really should know, somehow it drives me to learn more cool stuff so that I can wow you with a piece of knowledge, at least once since it hasn't happened yet.
Sure you can be a bit annoying, and you're hard to shop for during the holidays, but every human has some flaws that help make them special. Plus, you have more good qualities than bad.
I also love how tight we are as siblings - My best friend has a big brother, but she and he hate each other. I've never heard them compliment each other despite being siblings, let alone say "I love you". Looking at how you and I get alone and how much we love each other compared to siblings like my friends, it makes my feel happy to know that you and I would never get into a situation where one of us would say "I hate you." It'll always be "I love you."
So thank you Dameon, for being in my life and always being yourself, and thank you for always being there for me.

Different Styles, That's Okay

 
 
There are many books, and many different styles of writing. I have read many myself, and read some odd stuff not normally put into books. Some made me uncomfortable, some scared me, and some made me happy.
Looking back at this, I've come to a conclusion on censorship and writing - as there are many different types of people, and as everyone is unique, they all have different preferences that they're looking for in a book and some of which would probably be unwelcome to other people. So, there shouldn't be any rules of writing books except 1 - the contents of the book should be given out as a ranking of how mature people have to be and what the overall theme of the book is.
As is done with movies.
This will let everyone read what they want, and give a warning to those who don't like certain things within a book so they don't have to read the book if they don't want to.
Even though the saying we should all live by is 'Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover', if these themes and warning are on the cover, it will allow people to not judge, but understand something about the book they are looking at, and then judge it.
Overall, any type of story that can be written, should be written. Everything is acceptable. But for some things that are written that other people wouldn't be comfortable with, a little warning in the contents and the theme labelled somewhere on the book's cover, would be more than helpful/welcome.
